Description

Ofcom’s Media Nations 2023 report on media consumption habits in the UK shows the extent of audience fragmentation driven by what it calls an ‘all-you-can-eat media buffet’ across broadcast and online. The number of broadcast TV programmes achieving 4+ million viewers halved between 2014 and 2022 to 1,184 – but only 48 programmes on streaming platforms broke this threshold last year (with average viewing), with their audiences spread across tens of thousands of library episodes. You will hear the key findings from the report, including a record annual fall in the proportion of viewers tuning into broadcast TV each week and the first significant decline in average daily broadcast viewing among over-65s. This presentation will provide the exact figures, and also show how older viewers are becoming more likely to take up streaming services. You will hear about the % contribution that BVOD makes to all broadcaster viewing, and the significant impact that TikTok is having on media routines among 15-24s.
